Advice from a Harvard Law School Professor: "Don't Negotiate"
"Advice I Almost Never Give: Don't Negotiate"
Professor Sheila Heen of Harvard Law School has distributed a negotiation strategy for lawyers, law firms, and potentially others who currently find themselves within President Trump's cross-hairs.
From the strategy:
"Trump's attacks on firms are seeking answers to two (barely) invisible questions:
Can I push you around?
and
Will any of you bystanders step in?"
These are the same barely invisible questions we see from bullies all the time.
"When a bully and his sidekick confront a victim on the playground, it is not just the victim being tested. It is as much a test of the bystanders who observe what's happening. Will they step in and stick up for the victim, collective forcing the bully to back off? or will they avert their eyes and hope to escape notice, lest the bully's sights land on them?"
Integrity is expensive, and there will always be people who will punish resistance - that's the space we are in. But, integrity brings its own rewards.
